 The Mangroves are the most important eco systems as they are the transitions of life between the land and the sea.
In Costa Rica we are fortunate to have Térraba Sierpe, Which has been declared by the ONU as a patrimony to humankind and are the biggest and most complex Mangrove of Central America.
The Mangroves prosper in areas that are a convergence of fresh water from the rivers and the entering of waters that are leaving the ocean. They are characterized by growing their roots above ground. This serves the purpose of allowing the trees to stay living there instead of being washed away by the changing of the tides.
The fact that the roots of these trees are above the ground and sea level, make the view quite different than we are accustomed to seeing. In spite of getting regularly flooded by the rising of the tide, when the tide is low the mangroves fill with animals in search of some kind of food the water has left behind.
The Mangroves are full of life, and perhaps one of the basic reasons for its great diversity, is that there are 2 different types of habitats; one when the area is flooded at hi tide, which gives the opportunity for fish, turtles, birds that prey on fish, lizards, among others. And a different habitat when the water leaves at low tide. Things begin to dry up and small animals appear looking for food such as crabs, sediment, trapped fish, birds fruit, among others.
 An extreme Mangrove is a complex and beautiful place, they are areas where many species reproduce and continue the life cycle, many taking advantage of the protection of the above ground tree roots. The tour will enable you to observe the best aspects of the Mangrove, with the help of the professional guide, who will be pointing out the highlights of the tour in your own language. You will see crocodiles, alligators, fish, beautiful complex Mangroves, a big variety of birds, and if we are lucky a snake among the mangroves.
The Mangrove tour trip lasts about 2 ½ hours, during which you will see birds, monkeys, crocodiles, monkeys, and other animals. During the tour the professional guide will be explaining to you in your own language what is being observed.
We recommend that you bring; sandals, bug repellent, sun glasses, sun block, hat, comfortable clothes, camera and binoculars.
